Leo Awards 2011 red carpet:
Sanctuary fans get lucky (full movie blog)

Christopher Heyerdahl of Sanctuary stopped to greet fans at the Gala Awards Ceremony.

+ much more!

Leo Awards 2011 red carpet:
Tantoo Cardinal's first time?

Veteran actor Tantoo Cardinal said this might be her first time on the red carpet. "I don't think I've ever been nominated, but I'm not sure," she said.

"I don't know! I've been to a lot of award shows and I haven't kept track of a lot of it. I'm sorry. I think this is the first time I've been here. I like it." Cardinal was nominated for her supporting performance in the show Shattered. Lucia Walters took home the prize, for Life Unexpected - Family Expected

Leo Awards 2011 red carpet:
Scott bothers agree they're the hottest dudes

Were the Scott brothers the best looking dudes at the Leos? "I see a lot of competition out there, said Jonathan, or possibly Drew.

"I'm not gonna say I am, but I am gonna say he is the best looking guy on the red carpet," added Drew, or possibly Jonathan, pointing to his twin brother Jonathan, or possibly Drew.

Leo Awards 2011 final:
multiple wins for Gunless, Hiccups, and Fathers & Sons

Nancy Robertson tried to set the tone early on Saturday night (June 11), when she accepted her award for Best Performance in a Music, Comedy, or Variety Program or Series.

The Hiccups star noted that she'd worked with most of the other nominees, slept with at least one of them (presumably that would be husband Brent Butt), and then went on to thank her agent by his pet name, "M!@#$%r."

Leo Awards 2011 red carpet:
Sanctuary's Amanda Tapping

This year’s red carpet ran a hundred feet or so along the skinny West Georgia street corridor on the north side of the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, and the crush got a little intense.

The Straight had a few brief words with Amanda Tapping at the gala event on Saturday (June 11) as she made her way inside. The star of Sanctuarywas nominated for Best Lead Performance by a Female in a Dramatic Series (the trophy went to Carmen Moore, for Blackstone). Tapping was also a presenter at the awards gala.

Local awards boost from U.S. industry

The Osoyoos-filmed comic western Gunless was the feature-film favourite at the Leo Awards for B.C.-produced film and television Saturday night at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.

B.C.'s Shawn Williamson and Stephen Hegyes teamed up with Toronto's Niv Fichman to produce writerdirector Bill Phillips' best- feature winner about an American gunslinger (Paul Gross) looking vainly for a showdown after he mistakenly wanders across the border to a peace-loving Canadian town.

Gunless takes best feature at Leos

The profile of the U.S. film industry looms over B.C.'s annual Leo awards, meant to celebrate the homegrown creative talents in film and TV.

U.S.-generated work counts as a billion-dollar industry here while the local players, many of them trained on those big U.S. shows, craft smaller, often no-budget creative works.

Gunless shoots down competition at Leo Awards

The Paul Gross comedy Gunless was the big winner at the Leo Awards Saturday, which honours the best in British Columbia film and television.

Gunless picked up three awards: best feature length drama, best cinematography (Greg Middleton) and best stunt coordination (Danny Virtue).

Leos to roar as industry honours its own

Carl Bessai likes to keep busy. Last year, he produced and directed two movies, as well as directing an episode of Brent Butt's CTV comedy Hiccups.

Like most Canadian features, Bessai's Repeaters and Fathers & Sons only had a cup of coffee in the theatres before disappearing. But his work has been noticed by the local industry, which has nominated Bessai and his films for five Leo awards.

Leos Rising

Leo Awards producer Sonny Wong and Leos president Walter Daroshin have been responsible for the awards which honour the best in BC film and television production since 1999 you would think it would get easier...

2011 Leo Award Nominations Announced!

The Leo awards are British Columbia's own film and television awards, celebrating the wealth of talent working on Canada's west coast. As you may know, many of the shows and movies you see on SPACE are shot there, from Battlestar Galactica to Supernatural to Smallville.
