Leo Awards 2011 final: multiple wins for Gunless, Hiccups, and Fathers & Sons
Nancy Robertson tried to set the tone early on Saturday night (June 11), when she accepted her award for Best Performance in a Music, Comedy, or Variety Program or Series.
The Hiccups star noted that she'd worked with most of the other nominees, slept with at least one of them (presumably that would be husband Brent Butt), and then went on to thank her agent by his pet name, "M!@#$%r."

Local awards boost from U.S. industry
The Osoyoos-filmed comic western Gunless was the feature-film favourite at the Leo Awards for B.C.-produced film and television Saturday night at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.
B.C.'s Shawn Williamson and Stephen Hegyes teamed up with Toronto's Niv Fichman to produce writerdirector Bill Phillips' best- feature winner about an American gunslinger (Paul Gross) looking vainly for a showdown after he mistakenly wanders across the border to a peace-loving Canadian town.

Gunless takes best feature at Leos
The profile of the U.S. film industry looms over B.C.'s annual Leo awards, meant to celebrate the homegrown creative talents in film and TV.
U.S.-generated work counts as a billion-dollar industry here while the local players, many of them trained on those big U.S. shows, craft smaller, often no-budget creative works.

Leos to roar as industry honours its own
Carl Bessai likes to keep busy. Last year, he produced and directed two movies, as well as directing an episode of Brent Butt's CTV comedy Hiccups.
Like most Canadian features, Bessai's Repeaters and Fathers & Sons only had a cup of coffee in the theatres before disappearing. But his work has been noticed by the local industry, which has nominated Bessai and his films for five Leo awards.
